Staying in Beijing
The main districts to stay in would be the eastern district of Chao Yang
or the central district of Dong Cheng. These two area will allow you great
access to all the shopping areas and also the great restaurants and bars.
But if you need an early flight out of the city in the morning, your best
bet would be to stay near the airport in the northeast part of the city,
so that one can avoid all the traffic the next morning.
Around the Northeast Third Ring Road, many business travellers stay here
in some great 4 and 5 star hotels that have great access to downtown as
well as not far from the airport. The hotels here are a little pricey.
Hai Dian district has some great Chinese hotels and guesthouses, but it
is a good distance from downtown Beijing. There are some great 5 star
luxury hotels around here that cater for the employees of the hi- tech
companies that are based around here.
Jian Guo Men Wai and the Ri Tan have loads of hotels on offer, which are
close to the embassy and commercial areas of this district. A lot of hotels
cater for the businessman and woman, with every selfcontained convenience
in their hotels. There are lots of office towers and residential high
rises, as well as a skating rink and a few shopping centres.
There is also lots of hotels that cater solely for the tourist traveller,
seeing that the famous Tiananmen Square and the Forbidden City are very
close by. Near the airport, one can find a bank, a business centre, European
bakery and delicatessen, Western style pharmacy and shopping centre, and
also a Starbucks coffee shop would you believe.
